Rangers fans could be forgiven for a moment or two of celebration after seeing their side take full advantage of Celtic slipping up at Pittodrie in the lunchtime kick-off on Sunday, but things are about to get even better.

The midfield is one of Steven Gerrard’s strongest assets at the moment, able to rotate a host of internationals depending on the workload and the opposition with Bongani Zungu the latest player to soon join the engine room ranks.

Having signed on the last day of the transfer window a couple of weeks ago, the 28-year old South African international has had to quarantine on his arrival in the country, making do with training at home with equipment provided to him by the club, he had been playing for Amiens but he will obviously be short of match fitness now.

Will Zungu make an impact in the Gers midfield?

All things being well, he should be seen on the training pitch this week and the coaching staff will get a better idea of how far away he is from being selected, for those not familiar with his style of play, his passing range is most similar to Steven Davis whilst possessing an ability on the ball to potentially match Glen Kamara.

If he impresses, and considering Davis won’t be around forever, a fee of £2.7million is believed to be the figure needed to see his loan deal become a permanent one in yet another great piece of negotiating by Ross Wilson – with four fixtures to go before the next international break, all eyes will be on the team sheet, eagerly anticipating an appearance from a player who could be a star in Light Blue.
