Former Rangers target Andreas Skov Olsen is said to have been deemed surplus to requirements by his club, Bologna, which could see a possible January return for a player who has been on Ross Wilson’s radar for some time if reports are to be believed.

Italian media outlet Il Resto del Carlino has put the Dane’s recent struggles down to a formation shift that sees the right winger having to play in a position that doesn’t get the best out of his attributes but also confirmed that we are one of several clubs who have made enquiries about his availability:

“The one against Torino threatens to be the tombstone on Andreas Skov Olsen’s adventure at Bologna. Skov Olsen is disappointed by himself in difficulty in Italy and even more so today in a Bologna that plays a football that does not include offensive outsiders.

“Between Spain, Turkey and Scotland, there are rumors of requests for information from Real Sociedad, Glasgow Rangers and Besiktas: considering that the boy still has an international profile and with the national team he talked about himself, the agent also collects information between England and Germany.”

The 6ft 2 inch forward has struggled in Serie A, he won’t be the first youngster and he won’t be the last, speaking after a recent international, Skov Olsen said of his time at Bologna:

“It’s not secret that I’m not in the best situation at Bologna, it’s not going too well down there, but I need to go back and work hard.”

If Rangers are indeed interested in a deal, it might be that we have to make room first with Ianis Hagi and Joe Ariboo both attracting interest recently, the former would make more sense if we have a choice given Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s style of play, Walter Sabatini, the Italian side’s director of football, confirming in the summer to Gazzetto dello Sport that they would only accept a permanent deal for the Denmark international, although things may have changed recently:

“If one of Baldursson, Skov Olsen or Svanberg are to leave, it won’t happen on loan, and above all with an offer you can’t refuse”.

Valued at nearly £6million, Skov Olsen has huge potential at the right club in the right system, with six goals in 15 caps for Denmark, the 21-year old has shown that he has the ability to contribute at the top level as does 27 goals and seven assists in 57 appearances for FC Nordsjaelland in his homeland before moving to Italy, a remarkable return for a young player.

Ross Wilson will have different lists for different budgets if the likes of Siriki Dembele and Jed Wallace are on one, Skov Olsen is most definitely on another but we could, arguably, end up stronger if Hagi moves on and the Dane comes in, pocketing a tidy profit in the process, an aspect of our player trading model that we have yet to see in action – this wouldn’t be a bad way to kick it off and get fans on board.
