Gilmour struggles could yet see Gers return, but not yet

Billy Gilmour hasn’t quite single handedly transformed the fortunes of the Scotland national team but, he’s certainly played a major role in the upturn in their fortunes.

The former Rangers academy graduate was questioned when he chose to leave Ibrox to head for the bright lights of London and Stamford Bridge but he’s been proven right in his decision to challenge himself at one of the toughest teams to break into, however, he is finding life outside a big club to be considerably harder.

A loan move to newly promoted Norwich City seemed a strange one at the time and has been proven so, from limited game time under Daniel Farke to now being the subject of the Carrow Road boo boys.

Abuse from his own support telling him to “go back to Chelsea” in a slightly more unequivocal and aggressive manner shows exactly what sort of support Norwich has, in short, they don’t deserve him.

They laud Kenny McLean as a hero, a good, solid professional but one who would, probably, admit that he isn’t on Gilmour’s level when it comes to raw ability, after all, I’ve yet to see McLean dictate an international or Champions League game.

Rangers may have been interested before but it’s unlikely that we will be keeping an eye on his situation now, with Glen Kamara, John Lundstram, Steven Davis and Ryan Jack all capable of playing the same role, the last thing we need is another option there – if, however, we sold Kamara, Davis retires and Jack doesn’t fully recover from injury then next season might be a different story though.
