Billy Gilmour‘s reputation continues to grow with every appearance he makes and a man of the match award against England on his first international start for Scotland has done little to temper expectations of him one day becoming a superstar.

Rangers academy chief, Craig Mulholland, revealed this week that the club benefits from every milestone that the 20-year old hits due to clauses inserted into his Chelsea contract, something that football finance expert, Kieran Maguire, has been quick to praise, as reported by Football Insider:

“He was quite clearly a very special talent from a very, very young age.

“Rangers have done well to ensure they are joint beneficiaries of this and will carry on reaping the rewards further down the line.

“Clearly, Chelsea will also benefit from having him in the squad and having these step-ups in terms of his total transfer will be beneficial for Rangers.

“That is fairly standard to have a big sell-on included in his deal. It makes good business sense from their point of view.”

Things like sell on clauses are always beneficial but depend on a huge array of factors, however, if Gilmour continues at his current rate, winning trophies and representing his country will become the norm with Rangers benefitting every step of the way.

How many players do Rangers have at the Euros this summer?

As Maguire rightly says, it’s been good business by the club and something that I’d expect to see more often when the likes of Alfredo Morelos, Glen Kamara, Ianis Hagi and Joe Aribo move on, for us to be truly self sufficient, we have to make the most out of every transfer, it helps having talented players in the first instance mind you.
