Since Michael Beale took over as Rangers boss there has been a hint of confirmation bias about what we have seen on the training ground.

Everything is positive, it’s faster, and more intense and players – like Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos – are looking sharper and back to the sort of form they have shown in the past.

The reality is, we didn’t really see much during Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s time in charge in terms of training footage and Dave Vos, although restricted to “just” working at Ajax, is just as well respected as a coach compared to Beale, however, we have all heard or seen reports of training not being as intense as it was previously.

In the latest look behind the scenes provided by The Rangers Review’s Joshua Barrie it’s interesting to see Zak Lovelace once again with the first team and Kemar Roofe – seemingly – fully involved after his latest setback. Hopefully, the latter can now go on a consistent run of availability.

For Lovelace, he has looked a handful in the UEFA Youth League (two goals, four assists) and for the B team in the Lowland League (eight goals, four assists), this is where Leon King, Alex Lowry and Charlie McCann all proved that they deserved a chance in the first-team and the former Millwall forward is no different. Have any of our wide players really shown that they deserve a consistent run in the team and that they can be trusted to provide a regular end product?

Like Lowry, in the second half of the season we should be seeing more of Lovelace, he might only be 16-years old but he has a physical maturity way beyond his years. Beale has worked with Ryan Kent since he was 14 and knew Trent Alexander-Arnold from a similar age, he knows a talent when he sees one and Lovelace could well be the next.
