Rangers B team will go to the Czech Republic to take part in a four team pre-season tournament next month.

The young Gers face a combination of playing against senior sides as well as challenge games from other development teams from different nations, as part of their varied preparation for the new Scottish Lowland league season.

Full information was provided on the club’s official website on Friday afternoon, with the fixtures set-out.

In terms of the Czech games, the Plzen Tournament will conclude pre-season with clashes against FC Viktoria Plzen, Marseille and Honved Budapest between 14th-18th July.

Supporters in Scotland as well as Northern Ireland will get a chance to see the team up close with the other fixtures planned, away to Elgin City and then the team will travel to Belfast to play Glentoran, ahead of their new NI Premiership season.

The other scheduled game will be behind closed doors at Auchenhowie against Dundee.

Head coach David McCallum appeared to be very happy with what is lined up:

“As well as games against first-team opposition it is important the players are challenged at a ‘best v best’ level against top European teams of a similar stage and this programme will give them the opportunity to test themselves in several different areas and environments.”

Progress

More of the same please. That has to be the message to McCallum and his team from the first team coaches as well as the fans.

Over the last year, plenty of progress has been made and symbolised with the developments of Nathan Patterson, Alex Lowry, Leon King as well as all of the young players who contributed so well for the top team on the last day of the season at Tynecastle.

That recognition as well as the individual performances on display that day provided the evidence and encouragement required, that the current system is working.
