Manager Graeme Murty has said that in his opinion fans will see plenty of improvements from Rangers between now and the end of the season.
As we head into the clash with Hamilton Academical, Murty has certainly taken the positives from our six one victory over Ayr United in the Scottish Cup last weekend and when he met with the Official Site and the wider media yesterday to preview the game, Murty also spoke about his optimism at the side showing significant improvements in the final months of the current campaign.
‘We can get better. The thrilling part for me isn`t that we have won games or scored goals or we had flashes of good stuff – the thrilling part for me is that we can get better, we can get cleaner, we can get sharper, we can get a better understanding, we can get more ruthless and we can be more clinical.’
Murty went on to say that he was ‘quite pleased’ with the steps that the side have made since he took charge from Pedro Caixinha, but he remains ‘hungry’ for further improvement to ‘elevate our level on a daily basis so that our norms are outstanding.’
He went on to say that the group are clearly capable of making that improvement, so it’s his job to ensure they do.
‘I believe we have the players in the squad who are capable of doing that, it`s just challenging them every day to keep them fresh and keep them hungry, and for them to challenge one another to make sure training is at the right level every day. We are getting there – we are moving in the right direction, but as I keep on saying, we are not where we will be by the end of the season – we will be better than where we are now.’
Turning his attentions to Hamilton, Murty admitted he had leaned on Greg Docherty for his information and the challenge to the players was again to show improvement and tie up the three points in the right fashion.
‘They are very, very organised and we have obviously spoken with Greg Docherty about everything they are going to do. We know what Martin will set his team up to do, and we know they have a threat and they came to Ibrox and turned us over 2-0 from us dominating the ball and dominating the game, they created clear chances for us to go and score against us.’
He added.
‘It`s up to us to make sure we deny them those opportunities as if we don`t, we will be punished so we need to make sure the guys understand their main threats so we can nullify them, but also I would like us to go and impose our style and our play upon them regardless of anything that the pitch or the conditions or anything their team selection throws at us. We have to be ruthless enough and clean enough and professional enough to make sure we get the right result.’
In terms of an injury update, Murty confirmed that Lee Wallace had took part in training fully on Thursday as he continues his recovery and rebuilds his fitness and Bruno Alves was fully involved as well.
Ross McCrorie will be assessed on Monday and Jordan Rossiter will be looked at later next week as they bid to return.
