Antonio Colak, when he was first mentioned as a target for Rangers should probably have rung a bell for fans, however, putting behind them the Malmo debacle probably meant that he was long since forgotten about.

For those that remember the Croatian international though, they would have been impressed with the way he led the line, largely on his own, with his team down to ten men. Both goals coming when there appeared little danger to Allan McGregor’s goal.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, former Sky Sport journalist, Peter O’Rourke, reckons that Colak’s contribution will have been enough to see his name added to a list of possible transfers given how well suited he would be to Rangers system:

“I’m sure Rangers probably sat up and took more notice of him after he scored against them in the European qualifiers during last season.

“So, obviously, Rangers have seen enough to think that he could be a good signing for them.”

It’s maybe a touch hyperbolic to suggest that football clubs spend millions of pounds on a player purely because they did well against them but it can certainly be enough to seal the deal on some occasions and it may be that Colak falls into the former category.

What the 28-year old did to us in the Champions League qualifiers in the infancy of last season we have seen Alfredo Morelos do on countless occasions, single handedly bullying a defence into submission and it’s exactly that quality we were missing in the closing stages of the 2021/22 campaign despite Kemar Roofe and then Joe Aribo’s best efforts.
