Vital Rangers covered the news that broke over the weekend surrounding Alfredo Morelos’s future, and that Porto are said to be preparing a bid, after discussions with the player’s agent.

The 4th Official, with over 40,000 followers on Twitter, is one of the most respected and well informed Scottish football sites around, including connections across Europe, and this time they have made contact with El Bufalo’s agent to get the inside track on any potential move to Portugal:

“If reports from Portuguese media are to believed, then Porto have put a ‘serious offer’ on the table for the Colombian star. Michael Gorman (his agent) is apparently in Portugal right now negotiating a deal.

“I will be honest; if Rangers are to sell anyone this season, it would likely be Alfredo Morelos or Glen Kamara, provided the offer is right. I think what Gerrard and his team would be most worried about is a proper bonkers bid for either Ryan Kent or Connor Goldson. Rangers, right now, on paper, have enough cover in the forward department.

“I suspect that Rangers would allow Morelos to leave if a bid around £25million comes in.

“I have no doubt that Rangers would wait it out if required. Getting into the Champions League group stages would be monumental financially as well. It would reduce the need to cash out on one of the star players on an immediate basis.”

We already know that Morelos’s valuation a couple of years ago was over the £20m mark, so, even with Covid-19 considerations, the clubs that are likely to be interested in securing his services should still be able to comfortably afford this given their status as either members of top five league clubs or regulars in the Champions League.

How many players do Rangers have at the Euros this summer?

It seems that he has been linked with a move away from Ibrox in almost every transfer window since he’s been at the club, however, it still wouldn’t surprise me if he is lining up in Light Blue when the season kicks off, leading the line in our attempts to reach the promised land of the group stages of the continent’s elite competition.
