There once was a time where considering selling Alfredo Morelos would have sparked outrage and public protests, now, I’d imagine that Rangers fans would happily pack his bags and drive him to Glasgow Airport themselves.

When Giovanni van Bronckhorst first arrived, the Colombian international returned to something similar to his best form. He was playing centrally and became the focal point for our attack until an injury on international duty led to him requiring surgery. Eight months later and he is still miles away from the player he was before his first long-term absence.

It was also the first transfer window where there didn’t seem to be much interest either, any clubs that have been keeping an eye on him are now likely to be at the stage where they are waiting for his contract to get into the last six-months before picking him up on a free transfer.

It would appear that this is exactly the case with Fenerbahce, as reported by The Scotsman:

“Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos is reportedly on a shortlist of possible striker options for Turkish giants Fenerbahce in the January transfer window.

“According to Turkish outlet Fanatik, Fenerbahce have a three-man shortlist as they look to bring in options in case of injuries to their top scorers.”

There has been interest from Turkey before and, for all that Morelos has talked about his dream of playing in one of Europe’s top leagues, it may be that a change of scenery is all that he will be offered. Three goals since the start of the season and a club-enforced suspension are hardly eye-catching for potential suitors.

El Bufalo’s time in Scotland has never been plain sailing but his record at Rangers is one that shouldn’t end with him sitting on the bench and not contributing. At 26-years old he should be approaching his peak, lets hope he uses the five-week break to get his head right and focus on what he does best – causing carnage on the pitch and scoring goals.
