You would think it would be smiles all round at Ibrox after strolling to a 4-0 win, against a side that is normally a difficult opponent, however, Alfredo Morelos was far from happy when he made way for Jermain Defoe mid-way through the second-half.

Steven Gerrard was asked after the game about the Colombian international’s reaction, throwing his gloves to the ground and looking far from pleased as he took his place in the stand, with The Daily Record reporting on the gaffer’s comments.

When it was put to him that Morelos didn’t look chuffed when he came off, he said:

“Does he ever?

“I can’t work it out. We’re 4-0 up, he’s played well, his team-mate is about to come on, we’ve got a big game on Thursday.

“I don’t know, you’ll have to ask Alfredo why he was a bit sad. I wasn’t sad, I was very happy.”

It can’t be easy for El Bufalo, going from the main man who played every game to one who is rotated depending on the opposition, he is also no longer the biggest goal threat.

Ryan Kent and Kemar Roofe are more than contributing as is Scott Arfield and Joe Aribo from midfield, a sign that the subtle tactical tweaks are now getting the best out of the squad and the players we have available.

How many senior players did Rangers sign this summer?

Where once Morelos’s departure would have been a disaster, it is now seen as a transfer that would make the club a lot of money without Gerrard having to totally change how his team sets up.

Morelos is only happy when he is scoring goals and at the moment he isn’t as fluent as he was this time last year, but with seven goals and four assists to his name he is more than helping out, not bad for a player out of form.
