Alfredo Morelos has been seen as one of Rangers most valuable players ever since he set foot in the country, started scoring goals and causing carnage for opposition defences.

Steven Gerrard’s number 20 has matured immeasurably in his time at the club and become a better team player, demonstrated perfectly by his selfless performances over the last 18-months.

The Colombian international used to show frustration if he didn’t get a move away from Glasgow, however, he now appreciates how loved he is and that, for all his dream of one day playing in a bigger league has not yet been recognised, he won’t be knocking on the gaffer’s door any time soon to demand a move, as told to Caracol Radio in his homeland:

“You heard a lot about my departure, that Porto or several teams had made a proposal, but they did not reach an agreement with Rangers, so my stay at Rangers continues and I feel happy.

“The offers have been there but an agreement has not been reached with the teams. I am calm and I am a young player, I hope that soon the opportunity to leave will be given. That goal of playing in a big league in Europe is still there.

“Each player wants to improve each day and be in a better league, in a more watched league. But this league has taught me important things in my career. May it be God’s opportunity and may a big step be taken soon.”

It’s no coincidence that we have looked better with Alfredo Morelos in the side this season – one dodgy performance against Alashkert aside when he didn’t have his shooting boots on – his ability to create space for others and occupy a defence almost single handedly are qualities that I’m surprised hasn’t led to more interest from down south.

Who scored the winner in Sunday's first Old Firm of 2021/22?

He might not be  natural finisher but he has an uncanny knack of finding the net, nearly 100 goals in four seasons is an impressive rate of return, and that doesn’t include goals he has created for others.

As Rangers record goal scorer in Europe, adding to his tally against Malmo and Alashkert this season, he has proven that he can mix it with the best – his recent Old Firm performances also showing that he has learned his lessons the hard way.

It all comes down to the player’s happiness though, and if El Bufalo is happy, I’m happy.
