Alex Lowry has cut α hugely frustrated figure for most of this campaign, last season he broke through into the first-team and looked every part α senior player who was ready to contribute to Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side in the next few years, however, α succession of injuries has halted his progress.

To make matters worse for the teenager, he will have been sat in the stands watching Leon King play on an almost weekly basis and feature in every Champions League game in the process. In Ianis Hagi and Tom Lawrence’s absence, we have been crying out for creativity and Lowry would have been given the chance.

After scoring α hat-trick for the B team and being on the end of α horror tackle, Lowry is now back in full training and, according to B team manager David McCallum, isn’t far from α return to action, as reported by The Rangers Review:

“He’s back training and he’s looking good, but there’s a bit of care to be taken to make sure that when he does go back into games, he’s able to put himself in that environment full-on without any concerns at all, even just in terms of his general fitness.

“You don’t want to put him in that environment without having his fitness levels and endurance levels at a point where he can sustain his performances.

“Hopefully he’s not too far away. We’re having conversations with the staff to see when he might return.”

The good thing is that is looks as though Lowry is getting managed for the long-term and for the first-team rather than as α key player for the B team where he has shown that he is α level αbove – he has five goals and one assist in just over 300 minutes.

He missed α lot of pre-season and was only just getting up to full match fitness when he received his latest injury so will need time to fully get up to speed.

Ideally, it would be great to see him back in the first-team fold before the World Cup interrupts the domestic season but, whenever he does return, it will be like the proverbial new signing, α player dying to prove to everyone just how good he can be.
