Another week, another Rangers player attracting Premier League interest.

This time, it’s Kai Kennedy, with West Ham United now said to have offered a deal in excess of £1million for the 19-year old forward.

For all that he has returned to the first-team squad and is hugely talented, he has some way to go before he can dislodge the likes of Ryan Kent, Ianis Hagi or Kemar Roofe, however, this hasn’t stopped Alan Hutton from backing the decision to turn down such a fee in an interview with Football Insider:

“That’s a substantial fee for a 19-year-old, especially to knock it back.

“It shows you what their train of thought is. They obviously see him as someone they want to integrate into the first team very soon, I would have thought, if they’re knocking those offers back.

“I’m actually really looking forward to seeing him play, if I’m honest. I’ve not seen too much but obviously, I hear all the good things about him, read in the press about him.

“I’ve not actually seen too much of him which I really want to. It’s only good things that you hear. He’s obviously a couple of good loan spells last season but it’ll be good to see the progression now.

“Whether Steven Gerrard wants to introduce him into the first team at the moment, or they want to loan him out to a decent standard of team to build for the future.

“They obviously see something that they want to keep hold of for the future for Rangers. That’s the path they want.

“We’ll see how it goes. If these teams start ramping up the bids, it will be interesting to see Rangers’ stance on it.”

Hutton is right, we’ve not even really had the chance to see Kennedy in the first-team and the last thing the club would want is a repeat of the situation we saw with Billy Gilmour, who is now a multi-million pound player.

Is £1million a fair price for Kennedy?

No

We now have a Premier League sporting director, I’d like to think the clubs from England’s top flight can no longer offer peanuts for our top youngsters and expect to have their bids accepted, that he has joined Dunfermline on loan shows you everything you need to know about what Ross Wilson thought about the offer.
