New Rangers manager Steven Gerrard completed his first real test as our gaffer yesterday evening as we secured an aggregate 2-0 victory over FC Shkupi in the Qualifying First Round of the Europa League.
Goals from Jamie Murphy and a James Tavernier penalty in the first leg at Ibrox ultimately told as we headed into the second leg last night at the Arena Phillip II, but could only secure a scoreless draw on the day.
Match Stats: FC Shkupi v Rangers – Europa League Qualifying 1st Round 2nd Leg
Whilst it was by no means an enthralling match, we kept the clean sheet and ensured victory over the two legs and we now know we go through to the Qualifying Second Round and will face either Petrocub or Osijek in the next round of the competition.
With last years hugely disappointing defeat to Progres Niederkorn and many Rangers fans hoping we would be drawn against them once more so revenge would be in the air, that obviously wasn’t how the draw played out for us, but a quick-witted member of the clubs’ social media team either can’t spell or was making a point following the game – and the humour went down well with fans.
"It was good, it was professional and I thought we did the job we needed to do.”
