Southampton midfielder Steven Davis is on his way to Glasgow after Rangers agreed a deal in principle to sign him, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

It has been heavily speculated in recent days that the Gers were to make an approach for the Northern Ireland international and it appears terms with the player have now been sorted ahead of an official switch.

The Sun reckon he as agreed to an 18-month contract that will see him earn £12,000-a-week, making him one of the highest paid players at Ibrox despite taking a drastic wage cut compared to his English Premier League salary.

The report states that it could all be made official in the next 48 hours, giving Davis the chance to meet up with his squad mates at the winter training camp in Tenerife.

It would be a fantastic new year boost to supporters, who are already in jubilant mood having beaten Celtic at Ibrox last weekend.

Davis has exceptional experience, not just at the highest footballing level, but also at Rangers where he helped deliver three consecutive league titles in his first spell at the club.

That kind of winning mentality could be priceless in the closing stages of this season.

All eyes will now be on the official announcement from the club.
