Aberdeen away, five days before Christmas will certainly provide some festive fun for the supporters and a lot of cheer if all goes to plan.

The game which was initially due to be played on Saturday 10th September was postponed due to the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth but now a new slot has been confirmed. The clash will take place on Tuesday 20th December with an 8pm kick-off, live on Sky Sports.

The certainty of knowing when the game will now take place is a good thing for all concerned allowing the fans to plan ahead as well as the clubs to firm up their own schedules, following the World Cup enforced break.

When Rangers travel north to Pittodrie for the game, that will be the week that the domestic game returns in Scotland and part of a mouthwatering run over the Christmas holidays, concluding with Celtic on 2nd January – as it stands at present.

Hibs – H – Premiership – 17th Dec
Aberdeen  – A – Premiership – 20th Dec
Ross Co – A – Premiership – 24th Dec
Motherwell – H – Premiership – 28th Dec
Celtic – H – Premiership – 2nd Jan

At the turn of the year there is no further break this season with the Old Firm fixture followed days later by another league game and so on.

Those matches will be important but first of all a lot of hard work is required in the immediate period, starting tomorrow against Hearts. It is the lead up to the next pause in November that will make or break the domestic campaign at Ibrox. Some strengthening may be possible in January but that will only be worthwhile if the team is in a position to go on to contest the title.
