It was a case of third time lucky for Rangers against Queen of the South as we won at Palmerston Park at the third time of asking on Saturday with us taking a narrow lead into the second leg at Ibrox.

Saturday’s two-one win, thanks to a second half winner, means we’ve got the slight advantage going into the ΒΌ final play-off second leg for the right to play-off against Hibernian in the semi finals.

Clearly McCall had learned from our three-nil thrashing at Palmerston Park in our last Championship meeting so he set up differently as a result but still our defensive frailties remained and QoS looked to expose this.

Carmichael’s cross gave Lyle a chance but his header went over with Miller beating QoS ‘keeper Clark to score what he thought was the opening goal having beaten the offside trap but he was viewed otherwise and this didn’t count.

Durnan headed over again for the hosts before a Dowie foul on Vuckic 30-yards from saw us awarded a freekick. Smith (44) stepped up and his fine strike on the stroke of half time put us into this ahead.

Confidence was gained from this goal with Miller denied by Clark in the second half with Smith’s follow up cleared away to safety but with QoS coming back into the game a McShane delivery saw Lyle (64) unmarked to head past Bell to make it one-one just past the hour.

Thanks to Bell, who tipped Holt’s effort wide, it remained at one-one with the winner seeing the impressive, once again, Vuckic involved. His run ended with a pass to Foster who crossed into Shiels (75) who headed past Clark to win in and send us into the second leg with this slender lead.
