Rangers have, for some, added more players than were maybe expected at the start of the transfer window, a strong display at the weekend against St Johnstone a good sign that the new faces are starting to settle.

Any more signings will probably be dependent on departures and one regular starter who could be on his way out is Borna Barisic with a report in The Mail claiming that the Croatian international is a target for Nottingham Forest.

The Premier League new boys have already spent over £100million this summer, the latest indication of the gulf and finances between England’s top flight and ourselves, and that’s without considering how much they are paying Jesse Lingard in wages.

Barisic has been a good servant for the club since we signed him from Osijek for £2.2million, he has had the odd dip in form but, for the most part, he is a steady 7/10 on most occasions and has saved some of his best performances for in Europe and Old Firm derbies.

He is one of our most sellable assets though after the arrival of Ridvan Yilmaz for over £5m, you don’t spend that sort of money and leave him on the bench every week. Having Barisic available has allowed the Turkey international time to adapt and settle into life at Ibrox but if a decent bid comes in for the Croatian, and it meets our valuation, then you would think it will be accepted.

We don’t quite have a ready made replacement in the academy although there are a few decent prospects, Ben Davies has played left-back before but not for some time so it may be that we have to go back into the market, a loan deal a potential option given the current situation unless Ross Wilson can persuade someone to come in as a back up – a harder decision than whether or not to accept a profit making offer for Barisic.
