Lyon have suffered a setback with a one point Ligue 1 deduction following the scenes at the game against Marseille last month.

That game was abandoned after Dimitri Payet was struck with a bottle, thrown from home end, in the opening stages of the first half. Following the incident the referee brought the teams off the pitch and despite an expectation that the match would resume, that did not happen.

Now a ruling has been made on the latest crowd trouble incident in France, with Lyon paying the price for the actions of one of their fans.

As reported by BBC Sport, the game will be now be replayed behind closed doors.

This domestic matter will have no bearing on their Europa League campaign with the French side assured of top spot in Group A as well as Rangers qualifying in second spot – the sides meet on Matchday 6 at the Groupama Stadium on Thursday evening to complete the group stage.

A very lively atmosphere would have been in store in France for the visit of Rangers, had there been a competitive edge to the game but with that removed – as well as a reduced away attendance due to the disgraceful conduct shown toward the Bears in the build up to the game, meaning far fewer will be able to be present.

Lots of goals or a pre-season type encounter – it’s likely to be one or the other.
