“Perfect Move” – Rangers-linked Premier League midfielder set to seal loan switch

|

An Ibrox return will not be happening for Billy Gilmour – not at this point anyway – but a former Ibrox player has stated that the proposed loan switch to Norwich will be the “perfect move” for the Scotland international.

That was the message from Northern Ireland legend Gareth McAuley who spent time at Ibrox in Steven Gerrard’s first season – 18/19 – making nine appearances for his boyhood heroes, including two Europa League outings.

As reported by the Scottish Sun, McAuley believes that the switch to Carrow Road is in the best interests of the 20 year old:

“Billy has to move on from the disappointment of catching Covid and focus on getting out on loan from Chelsea next season.”

“I know Rangers would have been interested in bringing him back to Ibrox, but if I were Chelsea I’d definitely want him to go to another Premier League club and gain experience at the highest level, where football is a completely different style to Scotland.”

“In the Premier League, it’s a lot more strategic than the Scottish Premiership.”

With a medical reportedly going ahead on Wednesday, it appears that the move to Premiership new-boys Norwich will be confirmed shortly, barring any unexpected late glitch.

80 times capped McAuley continued:

“Norwich, who I envisage will be no threat to Chelsea in terms of the Premier League table, would be the perfect move for Billy.”

“He would have the chance for regular exposure, gaining valuable experience in the most competitive league in the world.”

“A positive season with Norwich, or a similar Premier League team, would set Billy up nicely for a proper crack at Chelsea the following year.”
