Fabio Cardoso has been confirmed a a Porto player.

From the awful scenes as he was targeted at Hampden Park against Motherwell in the 2017-18 League Cup semi-final, kneeling on the pitch with a burst and blood splattered nose following an elbow blow, to a transformation in his homeland via a very productive stint at Santa Clara, where he has sent the last three seasons.

Now the Estadio Do Dragao awaits as well as Champions League football and a chase for trophies.

Achievement

The player deserves huge credit for overcoming adversity and disappointment in his first spell outside his native Portugal.

A five-year deal has been signed with Porto, tieing Cardoso down until the Summer of 2026.

In his brief spell at Ibrox, the now 27-year old made just 12 appearances.

He never got to grips with the realities of Scottish football but given that his manager Pedro Caixinha never either, what chance did he have.

The central defender showed glimpses of talent but simply wasn’t up to task in Glasgow and soon returned home.
