Steve Clarke announced his squad for Scotland’s upcoming triple header but there was no place for Rangers’ Nathan Patterson.

The 19-year old was tipped by some to be the man to fill the problem right-back slot but former Kilmarnock manager Clarke has resisted that idea.

Rangers will be represented by Ryan Jack and Jon McLaughlin as the Scottish national team face another trip to Israel, in between games at Hampden Park against Austria and Faroe Islands.

All three games are World Cup qualifiers.

Nathan Patterson is likely to line up for Rangers against Slavia Prague on Thursday in the Europa League, ahead of the SFA hearing on the covid breach issue which will likely sideline him for several domestic games.

With this downtime imminent, it could have been a factor for his omission from the squad – others felt that he could have been called upon to get a feel for the set-up, at least.

With his strong performance in Prague last week, coming on the back of his explosive second-half introduction against Royal Antwerp, the Auchenhowie graduate has shown that he has what it takes to play at a high level in the senior game.

If not now, it should be a matter of when he breaks through into the Scotland senior squad – as long as he maintains his progress on the pitch at Ibrox.

At just 19, Nathan Patterson has got time on his side to make the desired impact for club and country.

With his ability evident, it’s only a matter of development and application for the talented full-back.
