The impact that Steven Gerrard has had at Rangers this season has been huge. After a relatively slow and inconsistent start to the season, the Gers are now on a roll, as their last game against Livingston proved once again.

As a collective, the team has been fantastic in recent weeks, but one man that has been particularly sensational is Glenn Middleton.

It’s only his first season as a full Rangers international, but you wouldn’t know it just by watching him. He, like Gerrard, had a fairly slow start to the season, but since he bagged his first goal for the club – a strike against Dundee – he’s gone from strength to strength.

He had an impact yet again at the weekend, in the form of an assist, and that only tells half of the story.

The 18-year-old has dazzled this season with his fantastic energy, pace and directness, and whilst his goals are impressive, what is more exciting about watching him is that goalscoring is only a part of his game.

He’s quickly turning into the perfect attacker, and given his age, that offers a very exciting prospect for Rangers. Now that he’s got going, it doesn’t look like he’ll be slowing down anytime soon.

Middleton himself, of course, deserves credit. He’s taken the bull by the horns and taken his chance, but some praise must also go to Gerrard. He gave him the opportunities, after all, and with every passing week, the impact that the Liverpool icon is having is evident.

The growth that Middleton has enjoyed in just a few months bodes well for the rest of the season. The player that he was at the start of the season, in contrast to where he is now, is so very different. He’s exceeded all of our expectations.
