Opinion: Gerrard would add some serious reliability with Rangers move for proven hitman

|

Rangers’ squad is filled with talent and depth, but it’s clear that Steven Gerrard needs to add a bit more quality in January. The Gers have been competitive at the top of the table, but with the addition of another top player, they could look to move past Celtic during the second half of the season.

One area that needs additional quality is the attack. Alfredo Morelos has enjoyed a good season, but more depth is never a bad thing, whilst the forward’s disciplinary record is concerning to say the least.

Fortunately, one of the most reliable attackers in England is apparently available this month. According to Sky Sports, Jermaine Defoe will be allowed to leave Bournemouth in January – and this should seriously excite the Gers.

After all, Defoe has proven his worth during years at the highest level in England. Great spells with the likes of Tottenham and Sunderland have given him a reputation of being one of the most reliable strikers ever in the Premier League, and that’s good with good reason.

Quick, agile, a lethal finisher and a hard-worker, Defoe has impressed practically wherever he’s gone, and whilst it hasn’t worked out for him at Bournemouth this time around, that doesn’t mean that he has nothing left to give.

He’s an experienced hand and could still come through with big performances, and as Rangers look to build to a famous title charge, the Gers could do with a player just like him. He’d be a fantastic partner for Morelos, and Gerrard will be able to happily rely on him.
