Steven Gerrard has already made a huge impact at Ibrox, with the Englishman really turning things around at the club. He had a big job on his hands, and given that it’s his first managerial role, he’s really taken to it like a fish to water.

Perhaps the most impressive facet of his management has been his talent acquisition. Sure, not all of his signings have been hits, but more often than not they’ve done well – and Connor Goldson is quickly emerging as the best of the lot.

Perhaps the number one need that Rangers had prior to Gerrard’s arrival came in the defence. A lack of stability had been a big issue previously, and a new central defender was required. Quickly, Gerrard made the decision to move for Goldson – and it has really paid off.

The central defender wasn’t playing much at Brighton last season, but when he did feature, his talent was clear for all to see, and Gerrard clearly spotted that.

At Rangers, he’s already proven the sort of quality that he possesses. Just as strong in the air as he is with the ball at his feet, Goldson is agile and mobile, whilst he’s also got a real physical presence that makes him a real nuisance for opposition attackers.

Goldson has also very quickly embedded into the culture at Rangers, and you can tell that he’s one of many players that always gives 100% on the field. Just look below at the passion that he shows when the ‘Gers bag a goal.

He’s arguably been one of our best and most consistent performers this season – and long may it continue. If we could get a few more players like him we’d really be something special.
