Opinion: Full points cost of Rangers star’s actions is shocking

|

Rangers have dropped 12 points in the Scottish Premiership this season in matches that striker Alfredo Morelos was either sent off during or suspended for.

The Colombian international has been sent off an incredible five times in 2018/19 so far, also receiving a ridiculous 17 yellow cards.

It makes him one of least disciplined players in professional world football and when you tally up the cost, it’s stark reading for Rangers supporters.

Morelos first received his marching orders in the very first game of the season away to Aberdeen at Pittodrie after kicking out at defender Scott McKenna in the 12th minute, a match the Gers would go on to draw 1-1 against the odds, dropping two points.

In another match against Aberdeen in December he was again sent off, with Rangers losing the match 1-0.

Having also received a suspension for the amount of bookings he was picking up, he was missing for a match against Dundee which the Gers drew 1-1.

After picking a THIRD red card against Aberdeen he was then suspended for a dour 0-0 against St Johnstone at Ibrox, a match in which it was obvious we were badly missing the 22-year-old.

Then, of course, he was sent off on Sunday against Celtic who went on to beat us 2-1.

It’s simplistic to say we would have won all those matches had Morelos been available, but his 29 goals demonstrate what a key player he is for the side and surely we would have found a way to goal in at least some of the above games?

Let’s not forget he also missed the Scottish League Cup semi-final defeat against Aberdeen, with Steven Gerrard forced to play Umar Sadiq.

The Morelos situation is simply one that can not go on and despite his apologies the manager must seriously consider whether he has a future at Ibrox.
