One thing that Rangers fans can agree on is that it’s been great seeing Niko Katic back in amongst first-team training during pre-season.

The 24-year old Croatian international chose the worst possible time to spend a year out injured when he missed the whole of last season after suffering a cruciate ligament injury in his knee and will be glad to have some semblance of normality back in his life.

His rehabilitation is far from complete though and, with three senior centre-halves ahead of him, he needs to get out on loan and play regular football, Hearts and St Johnstone have already been mentioned but the latest rumour is a significant step up, as reported by The Daily Record:

“Serie A side Spezia are stepping up their pursuit of Nikola Katic, according to reports in Italy.

“Katic has been plagued by injury throughout the last 12 months but looks to stepping up his recovery.

“However, with first-team places in the Rangers defence likely to be hard to come by reports in Croatia have stated there are several loan offers on the table.

“Gazette de la Sport now state that Thiago Motta is ramping up his chase for the centre-back after being told he has recovered from his cruciate ligament injury.

“He will reportedly pitch the loan from Rangers as a chance to accelerate the recovery.”

Serie A would be perfect, playing against some of Europe’s finest forwards every week for a manager who clearly wants him at his club, the good thing is that he is still young enough to return and make and impact under Steven Gerrard.

Is £1million a fair price for Kennedy?

If he can consistently produce his best football we have a fine centre-half on our hands, but for his benefit and ours, we have to say goodbye to him, for now.
