If there was a player near the bottom of the list of names who you’d expect to see being the subject of transfer interest, Fashion Sakala’s would probably be one of them.

With 12 goals and 7 assists, the Zambian international had a solid debut season as he adjusted to a totally different tactical system and the club changing managers halfway through but it seems to have been enough to attract the attention of French cracks Auxerre, according to Homme du Match via Football Scotland.

The newly promoted Ligue 1 side obviously saw something that they like though and have made a loan offer for Sakala which has been swiftly booted out, specifically due to Giovanni van Bronckhorst expecting him to make an even bigger impact this year.

I’d be inclined to agree with Gio, Sakala’s goal contribution per 90mins last season was as good as any in the league and that was despite him being constantly in and out of the team or getting changed position.

Sometimes we can be bad as a support for singling out what players aren’t good at rather than accepting them for what they are good at and every team needs someone who can just produce numbers never mind how good they might be on the ball or out of possession – in most league games it’s simply about taking chances because there are more than enough players to create them.

Where Sakala plays and how often he plays will be intriguing as he is clearly capable of contributing, after all, he’s already got one goal in one game…
