Rangers are not at the stage to be able to announce the new manager today.

That was the news provided this afternoon by David Edgar of Heart and Hand podcast – an official media partner of the club.

Despite a frenzy of anticipation and expectation, particularly around a private flight jetting in from Amsterdam to Glasgow today, there is no news imminent on the big appointment as the legions of Rangers supporters wait on the confirmation that they crave.

However, on the Daily Update show (16/11/21) on the H&H network, Edgar stated today that there would be “no announcement today” from Ibrox.

The club are said to be relatively happy with the pace of negotiations and how things are developing, despite the clock ticking ahead of Rangers Hampden showdown against Hibs in the League Cup semi-final on Sunday. It was rightly highlighted on Heart and Hand that making the correct appointment is more important than getting any deal done ahead of this week’s game, despite its magnitude.

With the full squad set to be in place at Auchenhowie tomorrow after international duty, preparations will gather pace – led by Jermain Defoe, Brian Gilmour and David McCallum but even if the new manager was installed on Wednesday, it is not guaranteed that he would be ‘in control’ against Hibs as he will not have sufficient time to assess and impress upon his new squad.

In typical Rangers fashion, the fans are demanding and want to know what is happening – we wouldn’t expect anything less but the wait is set to continue.

Talks are now at a critical stage and likely within the matters of finer detail, the waiting game is upon us.
