Rangers and Giovanni van Bronckhorst are not yet at a stage where agreement on a deal can be reached.

A source very close to the Van Bronckhorst camp in the Netherlands has spoken to Vital Rangers again this afternoon, as thousands of supporters eagerly await an update from the club.

The information provided was, “No agreeement yet, but still talking”, with some doubt cast if there was enough time for the deal to be done ahead of the game against Hibs on Sunday.

At the time of writing it is unclear if there is a specific issue causing the impasse, nor are we going to speculate on information that cannot be verified.

Earlier today, it was suggested that the dialogue had moved on to Van Bronckhorst’s backroom staff, in terms of who would be joining him on the potential appointment at Ibrox and that in itself will be a major part of the overall deal given the extent of the personnel who have moved on to Birmingham. From what we do know, both Rangers and GvB want to come to agreement but there are a lot of details to be put in place.

Challenge

With Rangers full squad back to their Auchenhowie base for training, a lot of emphasis and leadership falls on Jermain Defoe and the senior players ahead of Sunday’s League Cup semi-final against Hibs in what is another challenge for this Rangers team.

Beside Defoe will be David McCallum and Brian Gilmour, with neither having any previous senior management experience so it is very much a case of rolling up the sleeves and getting the job done on the pitch.

No appointment of the new Rangers manager is a possibility before Sunday, but once that game passes, another big one is just days away with the visit of Sparta Prague to Ibrox next Thursday.

Making the best decisions at the right time is the massive task entrusted to Ross Wilson and the Rangers directors who are well aware of the importance of the upcoming run of games – if nothing else it highlights the terrible timing of Steven Gerrard’s own decision which has made the impending one a reality.
