£10m man who shone at Ibrox “wishes to leave” and Gers should make a move

“Eddie Nketiah has told Arsenal he wishes to leave the club when his current deal expires next summer, after turning down another contact extension.

“The England Under-21 international’s current deal expires at the end of the season and he is free to sign a pre-contract with another team in January.

“It is understood that there is no shortage of interest in Nketiah, with Borussia Monchengladbach among the German clubs monitoring his situation. French side Nice are weighing up a move, while there is also interest from Italy.

“Sources say Nketiah’s decision is not motivated by finances but over a lack of first-team opportunities.”

Valued at over £10million, somebody will get a bargain if they sign Nketiah on a pre-contract agreement and there is no reason why it shouldn’t be us. For all that Stewart Robertson has spoken in the past about Morelos being a £20m player, if an offer comes in for half of that we should bite their hand off given that there is a player available for free who could be an upgrade and make us even more money in the future.

If money isn’t the motivating factor it makes it an even easier decision for Ross Wilson to pick up the phone and ask the question as to how much he is wanting, we can offer what a lot of the other teams chasing him can’t – the opportunity to win trophies and to play in the Champions League, more importantly, the opportunity to play regular games.

The transfer market has changed and there is nobody that can tell me that if we signed Nketiah and Xavi Simon that the squad wouldn’t be improved, that it would be done without spending millions should be applauded not scoffed at, this is why we have an sporting director in place, to find these players and persuade them to come to Ibrox.
