Ryan Kent hasn’t been firing on all cylinders recently and after it emerged that he has been carrying an injury and was expected to miss Sunday’s Old Firm, we were reminded, once again, just how important he is for us.
He’s yet to score this season, the woodwork and some decent saves stopping him from opening his account, we know that he is his harshest critic but a part of this comes from knowing what he is really capable of – against Real Madrid in pre-season he looked as though he was going to push on even further from last year’s title winning campaign.
There have been a few rumours about Leeds United sniffing about him but with just a few days left of the transfer window, Steven Gerrard would be unlikely to want to lose someone who means so much to him and the fans with the feeling, it would seem, being mutual.
Fans took to social media after the news was revealed by the Heart and Hand podcast, praising the effort and work rate of a player clearly not at his best:
And he was excellent! We rely so much on him and never hides. Incredibly talented. Hopefully he can recover and come back 100% after the international break

Worked his socks off today

The guy never hides even this season when he has been struggling for form he still goes looking for the ball. Credit to him for that because some fans around me just want to wait for a mistake to pounce. 44 seconds in and Bora got from a rocket behind me.π

He was different class today, hopefully not done himself any more damage. However donβt think Dr Waller would have allowed it

Great credit to him, glad this came out cause it helps explain why he was a touch below the level we know he can reach

Could see that he wasn’t at his fittest today yet he was unfortunate to not score and still caused an abundance of problems! Hopefully he can get fit over the break and come back stronger

Everyone wants Kent back to his best, even out of form he never hides or goes missing, his work out of possession is just as important as when he is driving at defences, as we saw at the weekend at nowhere near full fitness, thy are still terrified of him.
