Steven Gerrard’s Rangers opened their Scottish Premiership campaign with a draw away to Aberdeen on Sunday, conceding in stoppage time to surrender a well earned one goal advantage.

It was a frustrating afternoon for Gerrard and his men, who had to play the vast majority of the match with ten men after striker Alfredo Morelos was sent off after 12 minutes for a kick out at defender Scott McKenna.

The Gers created the chances to win the match but were not clinical enough in the final third, having to rely on a James Tavernier penalty to open the scoring.

Defending well against the home side, they failed to consistently turn that into attack, clearly suffering from the man disadvantage.

Fans did have criticism for some players, with new signing Jamie Murphy singled out more than others. Fans felt he was wasteful in possession and didn’t provide his team with the out ball they required.

Signing on loan in January, he made the permanent switch to Ibrox after Gerrard arrived at the club for a significant fee, and fans are looking for more from the investment.
