With ongoing speculation linking us with a return for former Ger Kyle Lafferty, it’s being reported today that Rangers’ recent player plus cash offer has been rejected by Hearts.

We’ve been linked with the 30-year-old former player for the last number of weeks with it believed that manager Steven Gerrard still wishes to add at least one different type of striker to our ranks, and since the speculation surfaced a number of fans have been torn on a possible return for the Northern Ireland international but our latest gambit is a reported £200,000 offer plus former captain Lee Wallace.

Hearts appear to be steadfast at their £750,000 valuation even though he only has 12 months left on his contract.

Where the deal goes from here is anyone’s guess, and there remains some consternation about the manner of his departure back in 2012, but his eye for a goal is clear and he’s spoken himself about wishing he’d made a different decision back then, and how he wanted to return to Ibrox to make right a few wrongs.

I can see this one rumbling on until a final decision is made and we know whether or not he’s ours again. Undoubtedly we need at least another body in the front line that we know can score or at least bring others into play so we keep ourselves covered as the campaign ticks by – not least to rotate to let people freshen up.
