Sky Sports pundit Davie Provan has laid into Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos for getting himself sent off against Aberdeen on Wednesday night.

The Colombian’s ill-discipline came to the fore again, letting his teammates down on the night and doubly so considering he missed out on today’s trip to Dundee too.

Despite his healthy scoring this season, these stupid cards he is picking up are becoming too much, with Provan believing that his actions must have left manager Steven Gerrard furious.

Writing in his Scottish Sun column, the Sky commentator said:

On the back of Alfredo Morelos’s third red card of the season, some are putting it down to a lack of discipline. It’s not. It’s a shortage of brains.

The sight of the Colombian smiling as he headed for the showers in midweek must have had Steven Gerrard furious.

How do you get sent off a day after the manager has held a summit on improving discipline?

Steven must be close to arriving at the obvious conclusion. You can’t educate a rocket.

With an incredible 17 goals and 10 assists so far this season, there is no doubt that Morelos will be straight back into the starting eleven in place of Kyle Lafferty, but someone really needs to sit him down and tell him to take more responsibility and smarten up around Scottish referees.

We simply can’t afford to have him missing for matches when it’s avoidable and his absence was notable during the draw with Dundee.

Can Steven Gerrard sort it out?
