‘Morphing into Pedro Caixinha’ – Sutton delivers brutal assessment of Rangers boss

|

BT Sport pundit Chris Sutton has claimed Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is ‘morphing into Pedro Caixinha’ after his comments about Aberdeen this week.

Speaking on BT Sport’s coverage prior to today’s Edinburgh derby, Sutton was asked what he thought of Gerrard’s comments about Aberdeen trying harder against the Gers than any other side.

In his usual dismissive style, the former Celtic striker was not exactly complimentary about the Ibrox boss.

He said:

I just don’t get it. Steven Gerrard is morphing into Pedro Caixinha and it’s just the way it is.

Why put himself in that position and say that Aberdeen try harder?

Why say it? What’s the point in saying that? Other than to rile Derek McInnes who put him away quite nicely.

People who think Rangers have had a good season are deluded. They really are. We talk about Celtic being average but what does that make Rangers who really have invested heavily in the summer? Let’s not kid ourselves.

Let’s say how it is. They’ve failed in the cup competitions miserably and they are 12 points behind a Celtic team who Celtic fans are criticising and have done all season.

Clearly this season hasn’t worked out quite how we’d have liked it to, but it’s nowhere near as bad as the Caixinha season that resulted in the Portuguese’s early exit.

Gerrard is at least building towards a goal and has the team playing some decent football ahead of next season, with a formation and tactics that is bringing out the best in plenty of players.

Chris Sutton is a notorious Rangers critic, but his latest comments are pretty absurd, even for him.
