Rangers Alfredo Morelos has been linked with a stunning move to European Champions, Bayern Munich.

The speculation comes in a report from German outlet Sport.de which considers the potential replacements for Bayern’s Robert Lewandowsi.

If the interest is genuine, the transfer fee involved would need to meet Rangers valuation of the player which is said to be around £18 million. It has already been said by Steven Gerrard that no key players will be leaving Ibrox this month, such is the importance of the momentum that is carrying Rangers title chase, as discussed overall this week in the Glasgow Evening Times.

The Sport.de feature stated, “With Robert Lewandowski, FC Bayern currently has what is probably the best player in the world. But how are the people of Munich preparing for life after Lewandowski?”

“The 32-year-old still has a contract with the German champions until summer 2023. It is almost impossible that the exceptional Polish striker will appear for another club in the next two and a half years.”

“When asked about Lewandowski’s successor, Bayern are said to be looking abroad already. Alfredo Morelos of Glasgow Rangers is considered to be a candidate.”

“The 24-year-old Colombian has been storming the Scottish Premiership since 2017, scoring 50 goals in 109 games for the Rangers. In the current season he has 10 goals in 27 competitive games.”

“When and under what conditions the ten-times capped international player (1 goal) should take the next step and switch to Bayern is not yet known. His contract with Rangers is valid until 2023.”

It remains to be seen if there will be any progress on this purported interest but any deal for important players at Ibrox are unlikely to be entertained until the summer window unless it is a silly offer.

What would follow in the event of a key player sale is another story but for now the focus at Rangers will be for more of the same on the pitch, starting this Sunday at Motherwell.
