Rangers will know in the next couple of days if Alfredo Morelos will be called up by Colombia and as a result, whether he will be available for the Old Firm clash on 2nd February as well as other games in the same time period.

The national side are currently hosting a training camp for their home based players and as is the norm, those from foreign clubs join-in later once the final squad has been named.

Despite Morelos having been previously overlooked by coach Reinaldo Ruena, it is understood that he is back under consideration, especially with a couple of striker injury issues, including Duvan Zapata. The strong form and improved conditioning of the 25-year old under Giovanni van Bronckhorst has not gone unnoticed in his homeland.

Los Cafeteros are set for an important double-header against Peru onĀ  28th January followed by Argentina on 1st February, meaning that the Gers frontman could miss up to FOUR Premiership games.

As can be seen below, a Colombian football account on Twitter recently responded to an enquiry made by a Rangers fan.

The recent recall of Cedric Itten could turn out to have been a necessity if the cap call comes for Morelos and if so, Rangers will impress on him that he needs to return to Glasgow as soon as is practical, to minimise the domestic time lost.

It’s another issue of international football for Gio to monitor with Joe Aribo’s ongoing involvement with Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations, whilst surely there will be no call for Kemar Roofe from Jamaica, given that he is just back to full training following injury.

Not long now until we find out.
