BBC pundit, Robbie Savage, believes Rangers forward, Alfredo Morelos, is too good for Bournemouth and should hold out for a bigger move according to an article in The Daily Record.

Savage, speaking on his Radio 5 Live “606” programme, was responding to a Bournemouth fan suggesting that his club should recall on-loan forward, Jermain Defoe, and make a move for the Colombian.

So what did Savage say?

When he was asked about the possibility of the deal happening or if he thought it would be a good move for Morelos to make, Savage replied:

“Morelos is not going to go to Bournemouth, is he? Come on. Me and Chris Sutton always argue about (Odsonne) Edouard or Morelos”.

“I know he’s not scored against Celtic but his goals for Rangers have been unbelievable, scored in the Europa League as you rightly say”.

“But Morelos, if he leaves Rangers , personally I think he’s better than Bournemouth. I don’t think you leave Rangers to go to Bournemouth in the predicament they’re in. Obviously there’s the financial side, who knows what Bournemouth could pay? (It’s) Premier League wages”.

“But I don’t think if you’re Morelos you go to Bournemouth. I think you hold out, stay at Rangers”.

“If I was Morelos, would I rather play for Rangers in a title fight against Celtic or go to a relegation battle with Bournemouth but probably be on more money? For this season I’d probably stay at Rangers”.

So is Savage correct?

In a word, yes. Morelos has been one of of not the player of the Europa League so far this season and has cemented his place in the Colombian international squad, he will have higher aspirations than a Premier League relegation battle.

Reports would suggest that, so far, the only bids that have been made for Morelos have come from Bordeaux and China with Aston Villa, Eintracht Frankfurt and St Etienne all said to be interested in the striker.

Across the city Odsonne Edouard is being linked with £30m moves to Leicester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Lyon and yet Morelos is outperforming him across almost every statistic, and has done for two seasons now.

His disciplinary record has also improved to the extent that he can count himself unlucky to have had two red cards this season – as much to do with reputation than bad temper or fouls – in both matches, against Celtic and Motherwell respectively, opposition players committed fouls of a more serious nature but escaped punishment.

No

The word from Rangers is that Morelos is going nowhere in January and they will be hoping that he fires them to title number 55 after which he will leave with the club’s and the fans’ best wishes as a hero and legend to a club of significantly higher status than Bournemouth.
