Rangers have been scouting potential replacements for Alfredo Morelos with the ability to score goals the top of the list of qualities required to fill the Colombian’s sizeable boots.

Peterborough United striker Jonson Clarke-Harris has been watched according to Football Insider, but if we are to replace someone of El Bufalo’s standing, we should be looking further afield and higher up the divisions with Vital Rangers making the suggestion of Georgios Giakoumakis of VVV Venlo in the Eredivisie.

The Greece international has scored more goals than Morelos this season, however, to get a closer idea of how the two compare, Eredivisie scout Marc Lamberts provided an analysis radar looking at their all-round attacking play:

First of all, the similarities. They both like to get shots off averaging around three per game each and getting half of them on target, they also score roughly the same percentage of successful dribbles and headers but it is on the most basic level – goals and assists – where the two differ.

Giakoumakis is on nearly a goal a game this season in the league with 0.88 goals per 90 minutes, remarkably Morelos is still one of the Scottish Premiership’s best at almost half of that, the Rangers forward is almost hitting his expected goals but the Greece striker is performing slightly better than his which means that he has been converting difficult chances as well as the ones that he is “supposed” to.

The tables are turned when it comes to assists and creativity though with Morelos comfortably in front, he fact that he has better players alongside him could have something to do with this though and Giakoumakis would be expected to up his numbers alongside the likes of Kemar Roofe, Ryan Kent and Ianis Hagi.

If it is a like-for-like replacement we are looking for then Giakoumakis isn’t the man, if it is someone who can add goals to an already strong striking department then we would be on the right tracks and, on that front, he has the pedigree to replace the enigmatic Colombian.
