News that Alfredo Morelos has signed with a new management company will have a knock-on effect at Rangers.

The in-form Colombian international striker has joined up with Footfeel Sports,  who have a strong Colombian/Spanish speaking influence amongst their staff and stable of clients including Inter’s Lautaro Martinez, Borja Mayoral of Getafe (loaned from Real Madrid), PSG’s Achraf Hakimi and Argentine manager Hector Cuper.

So what happens next?

Morelos’ stock is very high at present, most notably on the Europa League stage where he has scored four goals from eight appearances in the main tournament this season. Recent strikes against Borussia Dortmund and Red Star Belgrade simply keep him in the headlines and in prominence around the continent.

This is in addition to a decent return of 12 Premiership goals from 25 appearances for the 25-year old whose existing deal runs until the end of next season.

He is an important asset that Rangers need to protect with a view to any subsequent transfer in mind. Now that he has entered into a partnership with Footfeel, they will be advising him and weighing up potential options for their new man, which could progress toward a move away from Glasgow.

If that was to happen, Rangers would be limited in terms of the asking price with just 12 months remaining on his deal, come the end of this season. Being cognisant of this potential situation, Rangers will be eager to offer fresh terms to their record goalscorer in Europe, even if only for another 12 months.

Alfredo Morelos has more than served the club given the modest £1million outlay paid to HJK in Finland back in 2017 but hopefully it doesn’t come to a free transfer next year. In order to protect the club, it seems crucial that an extension is agreed imminently otherwise a parting of the ways in the coming close season looks most likely.
