Rangers pair named in Villa double Ibrox interest – report

|

Calvin Bassey and Alfredo Morelos have featured in a report linking Aston Villa with a potential double raid on Rangers.

With plenty of links ongoing in terms of players between both clubs, we all await with interest to see if Steven Gerrard will return to his former club with a real intention to do business.

As well as the Colombian striker, Birmingham Live has continued to speculate on the future of Calvin Bassey with a price tag upward of £20mil and the purported interest from Villa Park, whilst including Rangers possible move for a player going the opposite direction:

“Rangers defender Calvin Bassey is thought to be a target for Villa this summer, but at £25million Gerrard could pursue cheaper alternatives as he searches for back-up for Lucas Digne.

“Meanwhile, Gers are reportedly one of 14 clubs who are interested in signing Cameron Archer this summer.”

The full article mentions Archer as a potential make-weight in any deal, most certainly on loan with only a real reference to the contract status of El Bufalo, it added:

“Morelos is set to enter the final 12 months of his contract with Rangers and could be moved on this summer if a sizeable offer is tabled”

At this stage in the transfer window, things are slowly starting to move. Activity will be ramped up in the coming weeks but this thought of a double switch is purely speculation at this point.

Whilst interest in Bassey from the Premier League is thought to be genuine given his skillet and further significant potential, it appears very unlikely that a move to the big time in England will beckon for Morelos.

As good as he is at Ibrox and as much as he is loved, the Colombian international lacks the dynamism and pace that would be sought after in the Premier League. He leads the line by example at Rangers, but any potential move away looks more like happening elsewhere in Europe as reflected by known links to Spain and France.
