Mohsni Goal Decision Was Correct

Manager Ally McCoist has said that the decision of the referee to let Bilel Mohsni’s equalising goal against Albion Rovers stand was the correct ruling.

Was a good job really as well.

Mohnsi’s 78th minute leveller saw the defender take both the ball and the keeper into the net with him and it’s a shame in such circumstances the referee won’t award an extra goal to account for the keeper as then we wouldn’t face a replay in the Scottish Cup.

It was a big decision to make from the keeper but pretty simple, Mohsni got the ball so there really shouldn’t have been any debate.

With Albion taking the lead it was a much needed goal to secure a replay and a second bite of the cherry at New Douglas Park and we have to hope the performance and score line is far improved if we wish to go through to the next round.

Speaking to the Official Site following the game, McCoist explained.

‘If you look at Mohsni when he jumps he hasn’t got any idea where the goalkeeper is, it hits his head and it goes in, it’s a goal for me. I think the easy decision for the referee would have been to award a free kick. I haven’t seen it again but I thought he was very brave to give the correct decision and obviously we are relieved we are still in the cup.’

McCoist says he was obviously pleased when the equaliser came, but he did think we deserved it given the pressure we put them under and the possession we had trying to find a way through their defence but it just wasn’t clicking for us in the final third again.

Over 30 attempts at goal, and ten on target should certainly have resulted in more than one goal, but I guess we have to be thankful for what we got with how the game was going.

‘I’ve had a look at the draw but I think it would be totally wild of me to have the audacity to look forward to a home tie against Dundee United. We’ve now got an opportunity to win the league championship on Wednesday and then another game before we can think about the replay.’
