Northern Ireland U21 international Andy Mitchell has left the club following his contract being cancelled by mutual consent.

The versatile player has been with us for just over three and a half years, and has played a total of eight games for the first team in all competitions. His last appearances came back in the League Cup defeat to Forfar back in August.

The 21 year old has since spent most of his time out on loan with Annan Athletic, but that loan deal expired last week and he returned to Murray Park.

Owing to rules, having played for both us and Annan, these are the only two clubs he can now represent for the remainder of the season and McCoist admitted that at this stage of his career he really needs to be playing games – especially given his role last season in our promotion campaign – so presumably part of the decision to free him from his contract is to make it easier for Annan to pick him up so he doesn’t have any time wasted.

That has proven to be true after a quick search as he has now rejoined Annan and gone straight into their match day squad for the match against Clyde. He has signed a deal with them until the end of the current season.
