Jon McLaughlin is adamant that Rangers have what it takes to secure Champions League qualification as he made his point on what needs to be done for next week in Eindhoven.

The Scotland international made a pivotal save late in the game on Tuesday, which would have effectively won the game for PSV. James Tavernier was taken out of the game with a delicious reverse pass, only for McLaughlin to save the effort of Philipp Max.

It was a crucial moment for the Rangers ‘keeper and given his error in Belgium against USG, it is most welcome for his confidence and continuity.

He was helpless for PSV’s two goals, from corners, but insisted with a matter of fact “Of course”, when asked if his team need to improve in that regard. He added:

“At this level you get punished if things don’t go your way in that sense.

“That’s what’s happened in the first game and I’m sure they will be looking hard at that for the second leg.

“But we’ve also got to take a lot of confidence from the way we played against this team. If we can go away and apply ourselves the way we did at Ibrox there is no reason why we can’t be on the right side of the result.”

From the first leg at Ibrox, the scoreline, the levels of the two sides and that save from McLaughlin show the small margins on the big stage in Europe.

Rangers will expect a fierce response from PSV in their own back yard but will also be expecting more of themselves in order to get the job done.
