Rangers has confirmed that Newcastle United will provide the opposition in a pre-season testimonial game for Allan McGregor.

With plenty of ongoing speculation on the future of the 41-year old, this could well be a fitting, final send-off for the club legend. Or will it?

That remains to be seen, with this news further adding to an intriguing situation for Michael Beale and the first team picture. The manager complimented the veteran in recent days leading to reports that a further contract extension could be offered but surely the time is fast approaching for a clean break and for Rangers to look to the future, beyond the excellent service of Allan McGregor.

The club statement, as above, included the following from Michael Beale:

“This will be a very proud night for Allan and his family and an excellent, important test for us. We will have an interesting pre-season, with this being the first game announced.”

“There will be some top friendlies in there to help us get ready for the new season”.

McGregor is set to make his 500th appearance for the club if he is selected, as expected, for the game against Dundee United on Saturday.
