I don’t want to kick a man when they are down but when you see something as graphic as the video below, there really is nothing else for it.

Allan McGregor has made more mistakes and cost us more points this season than he has done in the previous ones combined since he first pulled on a Rangers top twenty years ago.

Social media was awash with Gers fans thanking him for his service but, reluctantly, admitting that it’s time for a change between the sticks with one looking at just three games where there is nowhere else to point the finger other than at the legendary keeper:

Unfortunately, there are more occasions where he hasn’t been punished or where he has contributed if not directly been at fault.

Not coming for corners that land inside the six-yard box and in the middle of the goals or having questionable positioning for long range efforts.

The stats don’t lie. We are conceding more goals than we should be and we are conceding far too many from set-pieces – changing goalkeeper is an easy way to reduce the gap.

Jon McLaughlin might not be able to make some of the spectacular stops that McGregor can but the other side of the coin is that he would relieve the pressure from his defence from corners and free-kicks, he is also comfortable coming out of his box to sweep up behind and stop attacks in their infancy.

He isn’t, and probably never will be as good a keeper as McGregor but he is the keeper we need just now.

  • Jack says:

The back up must be bad to be beaten near post no goalie allowed that to happen his technically ability has never been his main attribute saves with body and legs wich shows a lack of courage to dive at players feet as last minute goal going with legs instead of in with hands
