McDowall Not Impressed

Kenny McDowall has called on Rangers fringe players to do far better after not being that impressed with them when given the chance against Victoria Highlanders.

The match ended in victory and overall there were improvements, but for the assistant gaffer nobody stood out or really shone on what should’ve been their chance to impress given the struggles so far in pre season.

Speaking to the Official Site following the game, McDowall was adamant that our victory should’ve been more comfortable.

‘We were a bit disappointed actually. We gave one or two of the second string boys a chance and we should have been far more comfortable. It tailed off towards the end of the second half but we’re looking to kick on with our fitness and we should be doing better. If they are thinking about getting into the starting XI, some of them will need to do better.’

Nicky Clark was also amongst the interviews following his goal, and he said he was both pleased to get more minutes under his belt, but equally to score because of the boost of confidence that brings.

‘It’s always good to score in pre season and hopefully I can kick on now before the start of the season and get a few more. It was a good start from us and Calum scored a good goal but maybe a wee bit of slackness kicked in and we gave them quite an easy goal. But I thought we responded well and got another one. We could probably have played a wee bit better, but it’s a pre season game.’
