Youngster Ross McCrorie has reflected on his opening strike in Rangers’ victory over Partick Thistle at the weekend.

Hosting Partick at Ibrox for the tie, McCrorie opened the scoring on the half hour mark before efforts from Daniel Candeias and Josh Windass gave us the comfortable three nil victory.

For the 19 year old, he told the Official Site that when his effort went in it was probably his best moment at the club so far.

‘It definitely does. It`s been amazing – especially doing it in a big game like that and to get the three points too which was the most important thing. I didn`t realise I had so much space as I checked away from the defender and someone blocked him, so I managed to get in and get a head on it. It was just amazing – all the fans roaring – it was brilliant. Getting the clean sheet too, and I`m so pleased for Big Wes and Danny too. Hopefully we can build on that and get a couple more points on board. Danny is great and has been talking me through the games, right from the first kick of the ball. He has a brilliant left foot on him too and his passing is second to none.’

Talking about the game more, he went on to admit that set pieces had been a big part of training lately but there was an element of fluke involved.

‘Not that one in particular – we were actually meant to do something else! There was so much space in the area where I was, and Daniel has put a brilliant ball in and I`ve managed to slot it away.’

With the overall performance that he put in across the 90 minutes, he obviously came in for specific praise from Graeme Murty.

‘It was a great header and as soon as he got Man of the Match he gave the ball away! It`s one of those but I thought that the players identified an area that they could exploit from the set play. That wasn`t the coaching staff, that was a player on the pitch taking ownership, seeing an area that was free and then to execute it to that degree…I thought the ball in was wonderful, the run was wonderful and it`s a really pleasing, special moment for a young player who is enjoying his football right now.’

Having played the last two matches alongside Danny Wilson, Murty went on to say.

‘It`s working wonders for his development. He`s moving onward, he`s moving forward, we just need to make sure that we understand that he is a developing athlete, he`s a young man who is going to make mistakes, but those mistakes are becoming fewer and fewer which is great. But I`m a bit like a picky parent, I tend to see his faults and have a little moan at him, but I thought today he stood up to the challenge really well and we are all pleased for him in getting that goal.’

As for the performance of the side overall, he added.

‘Parts of it were very good, parts of out movement of the ball when we upped the tempo were really clean and sure. But getting the goal in the second half so early almost killed a bit of our intensity and killed a bit of our intent. I thought we passed the ball for passing the ball`s sake, rather than to actually penetrate and score more goals. But I have a team in there that have just won 3-0 so I can`t be too displeased. But they know we can play better.’
